Rose Duguid Obituary

Rose Ann Duguid, 101, of Framingham and formerly of Rockford, IL,  passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham, Massachusetts.

She was the beloved wife of the late John Duguid who passed away in 1971, and the late Anthony Costello who died in 2011.

Born in Highmore, South Dakota, she was the daughter of late Martin and Emma (Weinkoetz) Connelly.

Her father worked on the railroad, so they lived in several towns in western South Dakota, including Creston, Box Elder and Belvidere, where she  graduated from Belvidere High School. As she grew up, she loved the years spent with her parents, along with her siblings Lily and Joe.

During World War II, Rose worked in staffing and bookkeeping at the Air Force Base in Sioux Falls, SD. Later she helped her brother, Joe, as a bookkeeper at his accounting firm in Rapid City.
Eventually, Rose moved to Rockford, where she met her husband, John Duguid, and married in 1962.  While in Rockford, she earned a BA degree in elementary education from Rockford College, and she taught 3rd and 4th grade in the Rockford school district until her retirement in 1986.

In retirement, Rose loved bowling, square dancing, playing cards, local politics, Church activities, being with friends and neighbors, writing books, and her role as President of the Ethnic Heritage House in Rockford. She married Anthony (Tony) Costello in 1993 and they enjoyed many of these activities together.

She is survived by her son John and his wife, Mei (Shi) Duguid and their two children, Johnny, and Robert and numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 20 at 10 am at St. Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway Street, Marlborough.

Arrangements are under the care of the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Southborough.
