Richard Maley Obituary

Richard J. Maley, age 91, of Southborough MA, passed away in Lincoln MA on Friday, December 26, 2025, ending his long struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Born in Marlborough, Richard was the third of four sons of the late John H. Maley, Sr. and Elizabeth M. (Byrne) Maley.  He graduated from high school in Southborough and enlisted in the US Army at the end of the Korean War, reaching the rank of Sergeant.  In addition to serving as a Police officer in Southborough, he then pursued a long civilian career as an electrical engineer for the Raytheon Corporation, retiring in 2003.

In his free time, he enjoyed ham radio (as W1ZU and later as W1RJM), contra dancing, and chatting with the tenants at rental properties he owned in Marlborough and Southborough.  While he did not end up living the typical family life, on more than one occasion he mentioned that being a father brought him more happiness than he ever expected.

He is survived by his children, Cyril Maley of Groton MA; Scott Maley and wife Erika (Myers) of McLean VA; two grandchildren, Robert Maley and Katherine Maley of McLean VA; his brother Paul Maley and wife Rosalind “Roz” (Parente) of Tewksbury MA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by older brothers John “Jack” Maley, Jr. and William “Bill” Maley.

There will be no visitation or funeral mass.  A graveside ceremony will be held on Monday, January 5, 2025, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne MA 02532.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Richard’s memory to a mental health charity of your choice or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001, or https://alzfdn.org/
