Linda Hubley Obituary

Linda C. (Roake) Hubley, 68, of Southborough, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at home, after a brave ten month struggle with brain cancer. She was the beloved wife of George "Skip" Hubley for the past 42 years.
Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Wilson) Roake.

Linda was a 1970 graduate of Billerica Memorial High School, and earned a degree in Forestry and Parks Management at Essex Agricultural and Technical Institute in Danvers. During college she worked for Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management, Division of Forests and Parks at Hopkinton State Park, where she met her husband as they worked together there.   After college, as a seasoned worker,  she was assigned to Walden Pond State Reservation in Concord as an assistant supervisor for several years before being re-assigned to Hopkinton State Park as Principal Forest and Park Supervisor. In 1987 Linda was awarded the Al Hendry Award by her department for outstanding abilities in recreation supervision.  When her children were born, Linda left her job to be a stay at home Mom. In 2008 she returned to work, this time with the USDA in Worcester, working on the Asian Longhorned Beetle Eradication, Plant Protection and Quarantine program and retired in November of 2019 as a supervisor.

Linda gave back to her community by volunteering at the schools, and serving on many groups and committees over the years.  To name a few, she was an election worker, photographer for the Fire Department, and the owner and editor of The Southborough Online News. In 2012 she was awarded the Unsung Heroines for all her accomplishments at the State House in Boston.

Linda had a great love for horses and the 4H. She loved everything about nature and enjoyed photographing wildlife and their habitat and was an avid bird watcher.  Linda loved the mountains and streams, boating, canoeing, camping and fishing. Her favorite place was the lakes region of N.H. where she spent some of her free time at Lake Winnipesaukee. Linda also enjoyed watching the Patriots on Sunday afternoons as she was an avid fan.  She will be remembered for her kindness, her smile and the impact she left on the earth's environment, and will be truly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Matthew Hubley; Tanya Curran and her husband Patrick; her grandchildren, Gianna and Sophia Hubley; her siblings, Eileen Roake; Stephen Roake and his wife Valerie; Carol Stepnitz and her husband Larry; an uncle and two aunts; many nieces and nephews and cousins.
