James Keith 'Gus' Gustafson, born on the Fourth of July, 1921, formerly of Glastonbury, CT, died peacefully on July 21, 2015 at New Horizon assisted living residence in Marlborough.
Gus lived a long and full life having been married for 70 years to Anne Carolyn (Randall) Gustafson.
In addition to his wife he leaves 5 children: Svea Gustafson Fraser, James E. Gustafson, John H. Gustafson, Robert C. Gustafson, and Kirstin Gustafson Krinsky as well as 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Holly Ruth Gustafson.
Gus graduated from Purdue University in 1942 and later earned a master’s degree in management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He went straight from college to work at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for the next 44 years.
Among other activities he gave his time and talent as a Town Council member, a member of the Town Planning and Zoning Commission, and a board member of the So. Glastonbury Public Library. Gus will also be remembered for his part in scripting those infamous skits to raise funds for the Democratic Town Committee. He was active in St. Augustine’s Church serving on the parish council and as a lector and as a tenor in the choir.
Saturdays would often find him building homes for Habitat for Humanity in Hartford, or galloping his horse along the Connecticut River.
Memorial contributions may be sent in his memory to Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 1933, Hartford, CT 06144 or St. Augustine’s Church, P.O. Box 175, So. Glastonbury, CT 06073.
