Dorothy Reid Obituary

Dorothy J. Reid, 87, formerly of Marlborough and Framingham, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. For 63 years she was the loving wife of Douglas S. Reid, Sr. who passed away in 2017. A devoted mother, she leaves behind her children, Doug Reid Jr., his wife Cotty and their children, Jennifer, Phil and his wife Erin, Brian, Linda Coleman and her husband Josiah and their children Faith and Aaron; Sue Woundy, her husband Paul and their children Stephen and Lynne Cutaiar and her husband Brian and their children; Rich Reid, his wife Karen and their children Mandy and Lucy;  Cindy Dorsey and her children Kevin and David; Dorey Maioriello, her husband Len and their children Nicolle and Jimmy; a daughter-in-law Betsy Reid and her children Dan, Meghan, and Melissa. She was predeceased by her son, Bill.

Dorey grew up in Windsor Locks, CT and attended The Mount St. Joseph Academy in West Hartford, CT. She then graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Hartford and worked as an RN, maintaining her love of nursing throughout her life. It was during her training that she met her husband. They settled in Connecticut where they were surrounded by extended family and met life-long friends.

While in Connecticut, and later Framingham, MA, Dorey kept busy being Mom to six children and then a Nana and a great Nana to a growing family. She was a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader, was involved in religious education, helped in many school and local activities and still found time to be an avid reader. Her strong faith was not just passed on but lived through her kindness and caring. While her specialty was large family gatherings, her home was open to all who visited and she always made sure there was enough food. Dorey’s special place was at Hawk’s Nest Beach in CT with her family, a tradition started by her grandfather. Family was always her top priority and she kept track of what was going on in everyone’s life, never forgetting a birthday or anniversary. Her small circle of close friends was an extension of family and included some of her high school and nursing classmates. However, everyone she met felt her warmth in conversation. Her devotion to family, her kindness and her generosity set her apart and she is already missed by all who loved her.

A private funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at St. Anne Church, 20 Boston Road, Southborough, followed by a private burial service.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of her husband, donations can be made to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, 415 Crossways Park Drive, Woodbury, NY 11797. lustgarten.org/donate.
