Donald P. Woods, 77, of Southborough, died peacefully Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the Residence at Valley Farm in Ashland, MA. He had battled kidney disease and shingles for over 5 years.
He was the son of the late Philip H. and Helen (Mundy) Woods and the husband of the late Christine (Zelesky) Woods who died in 2011. He was predeceased by his brother, Stephen Woods.
He is survived by his daughters, Cheri Wilson and her husband Jonathan of Dover, NH, and Karen Woods of Tewksbury, his son, Mike Woods of Woburn, his brothers, Joseph Woods of SC and Tom Woods of OR and his sister Mary Perron of IN. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Emily Wilson, Ian Wilson, Jacey Woods, Darren Woods and Dylan Woods. He also had many brothers and sisters in law, many nephews and nieces and was an adopted Uncle to his neighbors Jim and Amy’s son Leo.
Don had a full life that included a close relationship with his parents and siblings, service in the US Navy, a great marriage to his wife Chris, helping to raise 3 great kids, traveling the world, and doting on his 5 grandchildren. He had many close friends and was able to joke with absolutely anyone and make them feel like that they had known him for years.
After the Navy, he worked for the US Postal Service until retirement age. He then assisted his son and daughter-in-law with their newborn triplets 3 days per week for over a year. His next job was at the ADESA Auto Auction in Framingham, a job that he never considered a job. He made friends there that he had for the rest of his life.
He was a long-time and dedicated member of St. Matthew Parish, singing in their Folk Group for years and serving as a eucharistic minister. He served his community of Southboro on the Recreation Committee, as President of the Southboro Little League, and as a Scout Master for the Cub Scouts. He was also a member of the Brothers of the Brush, the Knights of Columbus, and a Middlesex County Deputy Sheriff. He spent summers in York Beach Maine and has many great memories there. He will be missed by many.
