Arthur "Archie" Everett Lounsbury Obituary

Arthur “Archie” Everett Lounsbury, 84, passed away on April 18, 2026, at Pinnacle Health and Rehab in Sanford, Maine. Born on February 15, 1942, in Everett, Massachusetts, to Dorothy and Albert Lounsbury of Winthrop and Framingham, Massachusetts, Archie lived a life marked by hard work, quiet generosity, and a sense of humor that could fill any room.

Archie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, with his favorite posting being a duty station in Alaska — a place that seemed to suit a man who never minded getting his hands dirty or his boots wet. After his service, he built a steady career as a skilled mechanic at Morning Star and then Corning in Kennebunk, Maine, and later with Sears Corporation. He was the kind of man who could diagnose a problem by sound alone, and who took real satisfaction in leaving things better than he found them.

In his community, Archie gave years of himself as Cub Scout Master for Troop 304 in Kennebunk. He didn’t just lead from the front — he got in the mud with the kids, performing skits around the campfire and never too proud to be the punchline if it meant making a room full of boys laugh. A highlight of his scouting years was chaperoning Troop 304’s trip to Philmont Scout Ranch, a memory that stayed with him long after. His willingness to be silly, self-deprecating, and fully present was a gift he gave freely to everyone around him.

At home, Archie could be found in his garden or deep in some mechanical project, always with something to fix and a plan for fixing it. He loved fishing — the unhurried kind, where the point was never really the fish.

Archie was preceded in death by his brother, Peter and sister in law Maryann. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carole, his son, Chris, his grandchildren, Connor and Georgia “August”, his brothers, David; Robert (Wendy) sister in law Susan; and his sister, Dotti Meyer (Robert).  As well as loving nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to mention.

The family is grateful for the loving care Archie received from the caring staff at Pinnacle Health and Rehab, with special gratitude to the staff of the second floor.

A graveside service will be held for Archie on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Southborough Rural Cemetery, 11 Cordaville Road, Southborough , MA 01772

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes expressions of sympathy in the form of a kind act done in Archie’s name — preferably one that makes someone laugh or a donation to the charity of your choice.
