Born on August 17, 1923, Anne Randall Gustafson, formerly of Glastonbury, CT,
died peacefully on November 28, 2015 at her assisted living residence in MA.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Keith Gustafson, by four months, and her daughter, Holly R. Gustafson, who died in 2003.  Married for seventy years, she left 5 surviving children and their spouses:  Svea Gustafson Fraser (Scott), James E. Gustafson, (Holly), John H. Gustafson, (Liz), Robert C. Gustafson (Aggie), and Kirstin Gustafson Krinsky (Ross), as well as 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Anne lived a full and vibrant life.  Growing up the daughter of professors, she earned
a BA degree from Syracuse University and spent one year in law school before
moving to CT to work as an engineering aide at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft during
World War II.  There she met her husband and soon after settled in Glastonbury.  Later in life, Anne earned a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Connecticut.  She was a math teacher and tutor in several public and private schools and local colleges.  Anne was active in many town organizations, including the League of Women Voters, the Democratic Town Committee, the Human Rights Commission, St. Augustine’s church choir, and the Glastonbury Pony Club, where she served as treasurer and then as District Commissioner.  As a member of the Board of Education, Anne was particularly proud of helping to introduce public kindergarten into the school system.  She will long be remembered for her dedication to demonstrating with Greater Glastonbury Peace and Justice in the town center.  She could be seen carrying signs, often with her standard poodle Poppy, by her side.

One of her greatest joys was her horses:  riding cross-country, driving her
pony cart, and showing in local competitions.  She was truly an award winning “vintage equestrian” and rode until she was nearly 90 years old.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 28, 2015 at
St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Road, South Glastonbury at 11:00 a.m.
Friends and family are invited to a light luncheon following the service.
